Rock in Rio (1985)

Pierwsza edycja festiwalu odbyła się w dniach 11–20 stycznia 1985 r. z zespołem Queen w roli gwiazdy wieczoru. Queen, George Benson, Rod Stewart, AC/DC i Yes byli headlinerami, a każdy z nich zajmował pierwsze miejsca przez dwa wieczory (Benson jednak oddał je Jamesowi Taylorowi na drugi wieczór na tym samym rachunku ze względu na ogromne opóźnienie, jakie przedłużony występ Taylora spowodował na jego koncercie dwa dni wcześniej). W 10-dniowym festiwalu wzięło udział około 1,38 miliona ludzi.
