At the instigation of a grieving father, a Los Angeles cop investigates the suspicious
circumstances of a girl's apparent suicide.
Zmęczony, cyniczny, nerwowy. Burt Reynolds (Najdłuższy jard, Wiosła w dłoń) gra porucznika
Phila Gainesa - policyjnego wygę z Los Angeles, który nieoczekiwanie popada w tarapaty, gdy
prowadzi śledztwo w sprawie śmierci pewnej nastolatki. Dochodzenie komplikują jego relacje
z chłodną prostytutką (Catherine Deneuve), która jest niebezpiecznie zamieszana w sprawę

niezrównoważony ojciec ofiary (Ben Johnson) utrudnia pracę Gainesowi, prowadząc własne
chaotyczne śledztwo. Paul Winfield, Eileen Brennan i Jack Carter także występują w tej pełnej
