Comus to jeden z najbardziej oryginalnych, ale i najdziwniejszych, zespołów, jakie dane mi było słyszeć. Jego historia zaczęła się w 1969 roku, gdy dwaj brytyjscy gitarzyści, Roger Wootton i Glenn Goring, stworzyli folkowy duet. Nazwa została zainspirowana dramatem XVII-wiecznego angielskiego poety Johna Miltona. Tytułowy Comus to grecki bóg pijaństwa, rozpusty i chaosu. Z czasem skład rozrósł się do sekstetu, korzystającego z bogatego instrumentarium - poza gitarami akustycznymi i basową, obejmującego także flet, obój, skrzypce, altówkę i przeróżne perkusjonalia. Grupa pozostała przy graniu folku, ale robiła to na swój własny, bardzo niekonwencjonalny, wręcz awangardowy sposób. Partie wokalne dzielili między sobą Wootton, dysponujący dziwnym, "kwaśnym" głosem, oraz śpiewająca bardziej subtelnie Bobbie Watson, zaś śpiewane przez nich teksty dotykają takich tematów, jak przemoc, morderstwa, gwałty, szaleństwo i pogańskie wierzeni

Crossover Thrash masterpiece, finally available again!

So what is it that makes this record worthy of being called an underground classic? Right from production to musicianship, the concoction of several different ideas results into one colossal and inevitably unique style of their own. Many of you would probably wonder that there might just be a natural leaning towards sloppy playing especially considering my description of their astoundingly fast nature earlier. But the major surprise here is that all the musicians are extremely tight and precise with no single riff, solo or beat falling out of place. Tito Matos is one of the most versatile Thrash singers one has ever heard till date. His clarity of words and ability to keep up with the rest of the band with his lightning fast singing is simply commendable.

Rozpad amerykańskiego GRIFFIN uważam osobiście za niepowetowaną stratę dla nas wszystkich. Aż trudno uwierzyć, że tak znakomicie zapowiadający się zespół zakończył swoją działalność zaledwie po czterech latach istnienia pozostawiając po sobie jedynie dwa wybitne dzieła: "Flight of The Griffin" i "Protectors of the Lair", owe albumy zdecydowanie wyprzedzały swój czas. Już od pierwszych nagrań z demo amerykanie wyróżniali się stylistycznie na tle innych zespołów tworzących tak jak GRIFFIN nową odmianę Amerykańskiego Power Metalu.

Po wydaniu dwóch demo taśm 82/83 w roku 1984 przyszedł czas na debiut GRIFFIN i choć Fight of the Griffin nie był tak spektakularny jak jego następca, ze wszech miar, był to materiał wyjątkowy, porażał swoim potencjałem i tym bardzo charakterystycznym brzmieniem, które po dziś dzień wywołuje u słuchacza dreszcz emocji.

Gdy tylko w odtwarzaczu przestał się kręcić „Ravenous Damnation's Dawn”, wrzuciłem do środka „Dysangelium”. To, co stało się kilkanaście minut później, najlepiej określić jako mocny cios w sam środek całego mojego odbierania muzyki – czy jest to serce, czy głowa, czy jakiekolwiek duchowe wnętrze. Wszystkie te miejsca zostały sponiewierane zachwytem i zgniecione uwielbieniem. Wiedziałem już, po odsłuchu EPki, że ten zespół to coś dużego i niebanalnego, ale dopiero po spotkaniu z długograjem w pełni uświadomiłem sobie ich wielkość. Byłem już całkowicie pewien, że jest to dla mnie odkrycie roku, a sam „Dysangelium” to murowany kandydat do albumu roku. Nawet w kategorii metalu progresywnego, choć to oczywiście album death metalowy.

Pisałem już, że oba wydawnictwa dzielą spore różnice stylistyczne. To było dla mnie pierwszym zaskoczeniem podczas premierowego odsłuchu „Dysangelium”. Jest to album dużo bardziej death metalowy. Nie,

Crossover Thrash masterpiece, finally available again!

So what is it that makes this record worthy of being called an underground classic? Right from production to musicianship, the concoction of several different ideas results into one colossal and inevitably unique style of their own. Many of you would probably wonder that there might just be a natural leaning towards sloppy playing especially considering my description of their astoundingly fast nature earlier. But the major surprise here is that all the musicians are extremely tight and precise with no single riff, solo or beat falling out of place. Tito Matos is one of the most versatile Thrash singers one has ever heard till date. His clarity of words and ability to keep up with the rest of the band with his lightning fast singing is simply commendable.
