Zespół „Edguy”, grający melodyjny power metal, kontynuował tradycje zapoczątkowane przez swoich rodaków „Helloween” . Zespół powstał w 1992 roku, gdy jego członkowie mieli jeszcze czternaście lat. Pierwotny skład to: Tobias Sammet (wokal, bas), Jens Ludwig (gitara), Dirk Sauer (gitara) i Dominik Storch (gitara). W latach 1994 i 1995 grupa wydała po jednym demie, odpowiednio „Evil minded” i „Children of steel”. W 1996 roku chłopaki w końcu zebrali pieniądze na pełnometrażowy album i wydali go na CD na własny koszt. „Savage Poetry” okazał się dużym sukcesem, co pozwoliło muzykom podpisać kontrakt z wytwórnią AFM Records. Storch jednak nie czekał na ten moment i ustąpił miejsca Felixowi Bonke (ex-Exiled).
