SAXON są niczym dobrze naoliwiona maszyna. Za nic mają zmieniające się mody, za nic mają upływający czas. Niezmiennie od lat łoją heavy metal i nie mają najmniejszego zamiaru zwolnić. Z nowym muzykiem na pokładzie (większość partii gitar zagrał Brian Tatler, który zastąpił Paula Quinna) zaprezentowali album „Hell, Fire and Damnation”, którym udowadniają sobie i wielu równolatkom, że wiek to tylko liczba.

Na płycie, po krótkim mrocznym intro, z udziałem aktora Briana Blesseda króluje heavy metal najwyższych lotów. Są hiciarskie galopady, są i utwory utrzymane w średnich tempach. Nośny, tytułowy „Hell, Fire And Damnation” był znany już wcześniej, ale mamy tu więcej ognistego grania w postaci chociażby „Fire And Steel”, „Kubla Khan And The Merchant Of Venice” czy zamykającego całość „Super Charger”. Na drugim biegunie są nieco spokojniejsze kompozycje jak znakomity, ocierający się niemal o hard rock „Madame Guillotine”, „There’s Something In Roswell” (o kosmitach nie tylko Hypocrisy może śpiewać) czy ciężki „Witches Of Salem”.

Wiele wniósł wspominamy nowy gitarzysta. Podobnie jak Richie Faulkner był ożywczym oddechem dla Judas Priest, tak tutaj podobną rolę odegrał Brian Tatler. Gitary są znakomite (co nie oznacza, że wcześniej było źle, bo było bardzo dobrze) – co świeża krew to jednak świeża krew! Na koniec okładka. Ta zdobiąca poprzedni krążek „Carpe Diem” była delikatnie mówiąc przeciętna. Tym razem mamy rasowy obrazek godny legendy heavy metalu!

Ihsahn znany jest przede wszystkim z występów w blackmetalowym zespole Emperor. Tworzył również, wraz z żoną Ihriel, grupę Peccatum.
