Cleverly beginning with her remix of Tracey Thorn's "Grand Canyon" and ending with her own "Our Blindhouse"--which incorporates the lyrics from Thorn's early Everything But the Girl hit "Each and Every One"--Ada's ADAPTATIONS: MIXTAPE #1 is a highlight reel in the form of a DJ mix. Combining some of Ada's original productions, Ada's remixes for other artists, and remixes of Ada tracks, it's a representative overview of her activities since BLONDIE, her 2004 production album. As with Carl Craig's wider-scoped SESSIONS, the focus is smartly on the selections, not the mixing, so the bulk of each track plays out prior to fading out of the program. Almost all of the brilliant Ada-involved tracks from the past few years factor in, ranging from stern neo- (the Dee Pulse remix of Ada's "Fizzmann," Ada's remix of Booka Shade's "Vertigo vs. Cha") to quasi-trance pop (Ada's own "Lovestoned" and "Living It Up") that borders on rapturous.
