Pierwsza płyta i trzecie wydawnictwo w dyskografii ALEHAMMER. W skład zespołu wchodzą byli i obecni muzycy z doskonale znanych brytyjskich zespołów jak PROPHECY OF DOOM, DOOM, HELLKRUSHER, IMPULSE MANSLAUGHTER, VALLENFYRE, EXTINCTION OF MANKIND.

"Barmageddon" to sześć mocnych, napędzanych browarem buldożerczych crust/metalowych utworów. Jest to zdecydowanie najbrutalniejszy i jednocześnie najbardziej surowy materiał ALEHAMMER.

Alehammer is a crust/thrash band featuring members from various bands like Scoot from crust punk legends DooM, the rhythm section used to be in UK doom/death act Prophecy of doom and the vocalist is from Impulse Manslaughter. That these guys play crust together is not really a surprise as much as the return to the active music scene by the Prophecy of Doom guys.

What we got here is metallic crust/stenchcore seemingly influenced by Celtic Frost and a bit of doom/sludge metal. They manage to combine these elements in such a way to create something reasonably unique. Something not incredibly common in the crust/punk world. Records with this amount diversity are relatively rare.

Mixing this all in a fairly original fashion is one thing but being good at it another. Luckily they manage to be good at it. However I do feel like this is a bit underdeveloped. This might be due to the short running time of the album. It feels like this album could use a couple more tracks with different ideas. As right now it feels kind of like half an album. I do not mean that it needs songs with drastically different ideas but I feel that the different aspects of their sound on this record could be explored more completely. As I do regularly listen to EP's in this style that are often half of the running time of this record this does come over a bit odd even to myself. However I can explain that simply with that stenchcore EP's generally have a bit of everything of a band's intended sound. While this album just does not. Sometimes to really enjoy a record you need to get bludgeoned by it for a prolonged period. Not only does that make the latter songs on the record more enjoyable. That also improves the first songs on a record the next time you are listening to it. Why and how that works I can't exactly explain however.

Other than being a bit underdeveloped I can't really say that there is anything else wrong with this. The mix and production is good. The vocals howl in proper fashion. At times despite being underdeveloped there are moments of real goodness like the Celtic Frost style riff on Fermented Death.

I can recommend this to everyone who likes Celtic Frost and crust punk. Maybe even people normally just into sludge. This is a diverse record. I hope they keep on making more material as also the stuff they made before this is good. The guys of Prophecy of Doom have not been active much for quite a while so maybe if they keep going for a while the band will improve and get all the seeming potential out of it.
