Three years in the making and now, DISCIPLINE by WRATHAGE is finally coming out. A unique blend of Emperor-like epic melodies, twisted avantgarde guitar work and Finnish harshness. It's an epic journey through the lizard brain to a myriad of dark uncharted territories, exploring different DISCIPLINEs of the mind and body. This is Extreme metal art from Oulu, Finland, since 1997.

Whenever someone has the guts to combine avant-garde sounds with music in general they either totally fail or, in the best scenario, get something absolutely remarkable. Avant-garde isn't the easiest way to express yourself artistically but it's always worth a try.

The 7-headed Finnish monster, better known as Wrathage, wanted a challenge for their debut album Discipline and the results are outstanding to say the least. The whole band is involved in their multi-layered song structures and there's nothing within their mishmash of Black and Death Metal that can be taken for granted. They cite Norwegian hordes Emperor and Dødheimsgard as influences and I can fully subscribe to that assertion and would add Poland's Behemoth with their pompous chest pounding and also some Ram-zet in the way they stretch the musical horizon. This music is very complex indeed. It's menacing, mind-boggling, provocative and majestic and pushes the musical envelope without much in the way of restrictions.

Discipline is the kind of album that is definitely worth digging into more deeply and thoroughly. Once you have peeled back all the different layers and accessed this strange and unknown realm of extreme avant-garde stuff you'll get your reward. Guaranteed.
