„Voxfields” to bardzo ciekawa i wyróżniająca się płyta w dorobku zmarłego niedawno Marka Marchoffa. Nagrany wspólnie z amerykańską artystką MJ Caroline Rider projekt jest z jednej strony bardzo industrialny z drugiej eksperymentalny. Przywodzi na myśl najciekawsze dokonania zespołów industrialnych z początku lat 80-tych a także dokonania twórców illbient takich jak chociażby Noise Makers Fives.

Podstawą do utworów były nagrania z otoczenia. Niebagatelne zresztą, gdyż nagrań dokonano na terenie historycznego miejsca jakim jest Fort Tiden, obejmujący kompleks militarnych fortyfikacji umieszczonych na plażach i terenach zalesionych niedalego Nowego Yorku. Choć fort ten pamięta jeszcze czasy wojny z 1812 roku, część budynków odnowiono i udostępniono do zwiedzania, w części zaś prowadzą działalność lokalni artyści. Atmosfera tego miejsca z pewnością odczuwalna jest na płycie "Voxfileds".

Większość utworów zbudowana jest z kilku ścieżek nakładanych na siebie zapętlonych lub przetworzonych w interesujący sposób nagrań terenowych. Są to przeróżne uderzenia, trzaski, ocieranie się stalowych elementów, czy niekiedy odgłosy przypominające poruszanie się starej zardzewiałej huśtawki na wietrze. Czasami odgłosy metalowych zgrzytów skontrastowane są szumem fal czy zawodzeniem nadmorskich ptaków. Niesamowita jest zarówno jakość jak i dobór poszczególnych dźwięków. Końcowy efekt tych kolaży brzmi bardzo ciekawie i daje niebywałą przyjemność ze słuchania. Płyta „Voxfields” choć prosta w swojej koncepcji stanowi niesamowitą dźwiękową podróż o niepowtarzalnej atmosferze.

Markowi udało się jednocześnie nawiązać do klasyki industrialu, jeżeli o czymś takim w przypadku tego nurtu można w ogóle powiedzieć, a jednocześnie stworzyć całkiem nową ciekawą materię dźwiękową.

"Voxfields" is a very interesting and distinctive album by the recently deceased Mark Marchoff. Recorded together with the American artist MJ Caroline Rider, the project is on the one hand very industrial and on the other experimental. It brings to mind the most interesting achievements of industrial bands from the early 1980s as well as the achievements of illbient artists such as Noise Makers Fives.

The basis for the songs were recordings from the environment. Moreover, the recordings were made in the area of the historic place which is Fort Tiden, which includes a complex of military fortifications located on the beaches and wooded areas of nearby New York. Although this fort still remembers the war times of 1812, some of the buildings have been renovated and open to the public, and some of them are active by local artists. The atmosphere of this place is certainly felt on the album "Voxfileds".



Most of the tracks are made of several tracks superimposed on one another, looped or processed in an interesting way, field recordings. These are various blows, crackles, rubbing of steel elements, or sometimes sounds resembling an old rusty swing in the wind. Sometimes the sounds of metal grinding are contrasted with the sound of waves or the wailing of sea birds. Both the quality and the selection of individual sounds are amazing. The final effect of these collages sounds very interesting and gives you incredible listening pleasure. The album "Voxfields", although simple in its concept, is an amazing sonic journey with a unique atmosphere.

At the same time, the brand managed to refer to the classics of industrial, if something like this can be said in the case of this trend at all, and at the same time create a completely new, interesting sound material.

DIFFERENT STATE RELATED PROJECT

Marek Marchoff - the brain and the only permanent member behind DIFFERENT STATE project is a very creative man. He works a lot and the effects always amaze the listeners. Almost 20 years of experience in creating experimental and industrial sounds has left a stamp on his works. Without copying his own ideas, he is still searching, discovering new sounds and taking various initiatives. Together with MJ Caroline, he created his first field recording album. It's not a typical album for this kind. Marchoff treated field recordings as a palette of sounds by means of which he built a sonic horror story placed somewhere in Tilden fortress where rhythms are composed of footsteps, beats, reverberations of basements where only in the background life is throbbing and somewhere from the distance the moaning of war sirens can be heard.

"Voxfields" is released as a fifth part of our ongoing IYHHH series. We are sure that it will be a stand-out position in this collection that serves a purpose of presenting lesser-known albums or side-projects. But, what seems to be obvious, the album is an excellent position in its own right and can compete with other recordings in this field and beyond.
