The Pogues – angielsko-irlandzki zespół grający muzykę celtycką z elementami punk rocka. Zespół założony został w 1982 w Londynie w dzielnicy King’s Cross przez Shane MacGowana. Pierwotnie zespół nazywał się z zangielszczonego irlandzkiego Pogue Mahone (irl. Póg mo Thóin) co dokładnie znaczy „pocałuj mnie w dupę”. W 1984 roku nazwa ta została skrócona do The Pogues. W 1991 roku Shane MacGowan opuścił zespół z powodu problemów alkoholowych, zastąpił go wtedy Joe Strummer, znany lepiej jako wokalista The Clash. Zespół, występujący dalej w rozmaitych składach, zawiesił swoją działalność w 1996. Od 2001 działa ponownie, chociaż bez nowych nagrań studyjnych.
W 1987 singel „Fairytale of New York” zajął 1. pozycję na listach przebojów w Irlandii oraz 2. miejsce na brytyjskich listach, podczas świąt Bożego Narodzenia (okres największej sprzedaży na rynku). Utwór ten z upływem lat stał się klasykiem na wyspach, oraz został wybrany w ankietach kanału muzyczno-telewizyjnego VH1 UK jako najlepsza piosenka świąteczna od 2004 przez następny szereg lat: w 2005, i w 2006, pomimo nie uzyskania 1. miejsca jako świąteczna piosenka w roku wydania. Piosenka ta została uznana także w ankiecie VH1 za 27. na liście wszech czasów spośród wszystkich „UK nr 1.” W innej ankiecie, przeprowadzonej wśród słuchaczy BBC Radio 2, otrzymała miano 84. piosenki wszech czasów (ankieta „Sold on Song”, Top 100). W 2007 na krótki okres BBC ocenzurowało ją z uwagi na słowo „faggot” (idiomatycznie po polsku: „pedał”) w tekście, ocenionego wówczas jako obraźliwego dla gejów. Jednak w obliczu powszechnych protestów wobec cenzury ze strony słuchaczy, w tym matki gościnnie występującej w tym nagraniu piosenkarki Kirsty MacColl, która zmarła w wypadku na morzu w 2000, dalszej cenzury zaniechano.
W sierpniu 2012 roku The Pogues wyruszyli w europejską trasę koncertową z okazji 30. programy nakręcone i nagrane na album koncertowy i DVD wydane 19 listopada 2012 roku.
W marcu 2013 roku The Pogues wydali 30:30: The Essential Collection , dwupłytowy zestaw zawierający 30 piosenek oraz jedenaście filmów. W październiku 2013 roku The Pogues wydali zestaw pudełkowy zatytułowany Pogues 30, zawierający zremasterowane wersje wszystkich ich albumów studyjnych oraz niepublikowany wcześniej album koncertowy z udziałem Joe Strummera na London Forum w grudniu 1991 roku.
Gitarzysta Philip Chevron zmarł 8 października 2013 r. W Dublinie w Irlandii na raka przełyku w wieku 56 lat.
W grudniu 2013 roku The Pogues wyruszyli w czterodniową świąteczną trasę koncertową po Wielkiej Brytanii, po której odbyło się kilka koncertów wiosną i latem 2014 roku. Ostatni występ The Pogues na brytyjskiej ziemi miał miejsce 5 lipca 2014 roku na festiwalu British Summer Time. w londyńskim Hyde Parku. Ostatni występ The Pogues (do tej pory) miał miejsce 9 sierpnia 2014 r. Podczas festiwalu „Fête du bruit dans Landerneau” w Landerneau w Bretanii we Francji.
