W zasadzie dla kogoś, kto zna choćby dwie poprzednie płyty Axela Rudiego Pella, ten album nie mógł okazać się żadnym zaskoczeniem. Słychać tu sprawdzone patenty, choć zaserwowane z wyjątkową gracją. W porównaniu z Magic trochę mniej tutaj ultraszybkich galopad ze ścigającą się ze światłem podwójną stopą bębna centralnego. A pewne deja vu można mieć już po spojrzeniu na listę utworów, The Gates of Seven Seals, Oceans of Time, Ride The Rainbow - jakoś znajomo brzmią takie tytuły.

Nowością jest za to osoba wokalisty. Johnny Gioeli to kolejny Amerykanin w składzie, który generalnie kontynyuuje ścieżkę wyznaczoną przez Jeffa Scotta Soto. Ma jednak trochę inną barwę głosu, przypominającą bardziej Ronniego Jamesa Dio, co przypadkiem nie jest, wiadomo bowiem o fascynacji Pella właśnie tym wokalistą. Gioeli dość naturalnie wkomponowuje się w muzykę Axela Rudiego Pella i znakomicie do niej pasuje.

The Masquerade Ball jest drugą płytą Pella z Johnnym Gioelim (Hardline) w roli wokalisty i zarazem pierwszą, gdzie za perkusją zasiada Mike Terrana (bębnił na wielu solowych płytach wirtuozów gitary). Jak to zwykle z Axelem bywa, nie trzeba się długo zastanawiać, czy jego dzieło dorówna poprzednim, odpowiedź jest w zasadzie oczywista i brzmi: "owszem, dorówna". Tym sposobem gitarzysta wręcz klonuje swoje pomysły w różnych wariacjach i dostarcza spragnionym fanom odpowiedniej strawy. Nie należę wprawdzie do zagorzałych fanów Niemca, ale piję za jego zdrowie, bo lubię czasem go posłuchać. Ostatnimi czasy słuchałem dużo AORu, więc odczułem potrzebę sięgnięcia po coś bardziej dynamicznego. Wybór właściwie był prosty.

Zwyczajem lat osiemdziesiątych album otwiera zgrabne intro, The Arrival. Jest tajemniczo, mrocznie, klimatycznie (nastrój rodem jak z fantasy lub ze średniowiecza). Półtorej minuty takich klimatów i wkracza pierwszy formalny numer Earls Of Black. Niemal powe

Wow! Rok 2005 był wyjątkowo suty w dobre wydawnictwa muzyczne, by wspomnieć choćby Nevermore, Sieges Even, Nile, Opeth. Na tym poletku pojawił się jednak zespół, który już zdążył namieszać, a zapewne nie powiedział jeszcze ostatniego słowa. Biomechanical, bo o nim mowa, wydając swój drugi album pokazuje, że zespół nie musi się zamykać w ramach jednego stylu i możliwe jest połączenie zupełnie niepokrewnych ze sobą nurtów metalowych. Muzykę Biomechanical najprościej byłoby określić mianem progmetalu, ale byłoby to duże uproszczenie.
W muzyce angielskiego kwintetu da się bowiem zauważyć bardzo wyraźne wzorowanie się na Panterze z czasów "Cowboys from hell" i Nevermore. Jeśli dodamy do tego odrobinę heavymetalowego grania w stylu Judas Priest i futurystyczne klawisze rodem z Nocturnus to mamy wstępny obraz muzyki.

Oddzielna kwestia to fenomenalny głos niejakiego Johna K., który potrafi spiewać drapieżnie jak Anselmo, tak wysoko jak Halford, czasem zaleci Dickinsonem i T
