Rivers Cuomo began plotting Weezer's return to hard rock long before the October 2020 passing of Eddie Van Halen, but once the guitarist left this world, Cuomo decided to dub the group's heavy 2021 record Van Weezer. The title is an affectionate tribute to an early musical hero and also some truth in advertising: The album is indeed filled with the kind of oversized riffs and melodies that characterized Van Halen's reign in the early 1980s. Like all great Van Halen albums, Van Weezer weighs in at a swift 31 minutes, spending no longer than necessary to drive home the hooks and guitar solos, but that's where the easy comparisons end. Weezer doesn't use the early Van Halen albums as a blueprint so much as they treat the band as their spirit animal, attempting to infuse Weezer's power pop

Od wydania płyty “Ab Ovo” minął zaledwie rok i już otrzymaliśmy kolejny album grupy WALFAD. Tym razem mamy do czynienia z wydawnictwem dwujęzycznym wydanym na trzy sposoby: jako pojedynczy album polskojęzyczny, jako pojedynczy anglojęzyczny oraz jako album podwójny zawierający obydwie wersje językowe. Wydawnictwo dobrze przemyślane i głębokie, które już swoim tytułem - „An Unsung Hero, Salty Rains & Him” - sugeruje, że mamy do czynienia z albumem tyleż nietuzinkowym, co wręcz wyjątkowym.

Podczas tegorocznych koncertów grupy WALFAD można było usłyszeć zalążki utworów, które teraz znalazły się na tymże albumie. Były to w dużej mierze utwory instrumentalne, lecz finalnie wszystkie z nich zyskały teksty. Teksty, dodajmy, niezwyczajne, prowokujące do myślenia i OPISujące pewną zamkniętą historię. Time Waits For No Slave to jak się teraz z perspektywy lat i dwóch późniejszych płyt zdaje ostatni album (a może to jednak Utilitarian) z serii zapoczątkowanej przez Enemy of the Music Business. Mam tutaj na myśli charakter, który odjeżdża zarówno od typowej grindowej młócki, gdzie dominuje punkowy wkurw i asceza środków, jak i zimnej, niemal industrialnej tonacji, czy też noisowych odjazdów na rzecz rozbudowanych kompozycji w duchu instrumentalnej progresji. Bo oto numery są złożone nie tylko z furii i mrocznej klaustrofobicznej atmosfery, totalnej agresji na przemian z ultra ciężkimi zwolnieniami miażdżącymi bezlitośnie. One znacznie częściej mieszczą się w przedziałach, gdzie średnie tempa wyznaczają środek ciężkości, a arsenał zasobów aranżacyjnych daje więcej możliwości kombinacyjnych, jak i pozwala utwory nazwać znacznie chwytliwszymi. Żeby była jasność, a żadnemu radykałowi nie dać powodu do "złośliwej" krytyki, pisząc iż
