Był zimny, listopadowy wieczór. Trasa promocyjna „Stormwatch” – z basistą Davidem Peggiem czasowo (jak zakładał Ian) zastępującym Johna Glascocka – dobiegała końca; zespół właśnie kończył objazd Zachodniego Wybrzeża USA. I wtedy Ian Anderson otrzymał telefon z Londynu. Stan Glascocka gwałtownie się pogorszył; basista przeszedł operację na otwartym sercu, która jednak okazała się bezowocna… John Glascock zmarł w 33.urodziny Martina Barre’a, 17 listopada 1979. Barrie Barlow – bliski przyjaciel basisty – załamał się i ogłosił, że kończy z muzyką. Dodatkowo Evanowi i Palmerowi kończyły się kontrakty z zespołem. I tak w drugiej połowie listopada 1979 Jethro Tull zawiesili działalność.

Większość fanów Megadeth można podzielić na dwie grupy. Tych, którzy za najlepszy album uważają "Peace Sells... But Who's Bying?", oraz na tych, którzy preferują "Rust in Peace". Zapewne istnieje jeszcze spora grupa stawiająca na czele "Countdown to Extinction", natomiast zwolennicy pozostałych albumów to już margines. W sumie nie bardzo rozumiem, dlaczego akurat "Rust in Peace" cieszy się takim uznaniem.

Album jest debiutem nowego, najtrwalszego i być może najsłynniejszego składu zespołu - z gitarzystą Martym Friedmanem i perkusistą Nickiem Menzą, którzy dołączyli do Dave'a Mustaine'a i Dave'a Ellefsona. Pod pewnymi względami stanowi jednak powrót do korzeni zespołu. Oczywiście, nie ma tutaj aż takiej dawki agresji i infantylności, jak na "Killing Is My Business... and Business Is
